Attendance, Welfare and Admissions Officer

Salary:   LBR Scale 6, Points 18-20 - £30,851-£31,776 (Actual)

Job Type:   Term-Time only, Permanent

Start Date:   05 May 2025

Apply By:   31 March 2025

Job Overview

The school’s overall attendance last academic year was 93%, which is nearly 3% higher than the secondary national average. However, in line with the national picture, there is still much work to be done, although our persistent absence rate has fallen from 24% to 20% over the last two academic years, our aim is to continue to reduce this substantially. Persistent absence disproportionately affects key groups within the school community, such as disadvantaged pupils, and pupils with special educational needs, more specifically those in receipt of SEND support.

This role provides a challenging but exciting opportunity for someone passionate about social justice and equality of opportunity, who believes in the transformative power of education, to have a real impact in improving the lives and outcomes of all children.

As such, we are looking for a proactive, solution-focused, flexible and friendly professional to join our wider pastoral team with a strategic focus on raising attendance and supporting the related welfare and well being needs of pupils who are persistently absent from school.

As an Attendance, Welfare and Admissions Officer, you have the important task of connecting with pupils and their families who are struggling to attend school regularly and providing assistance and support to help them improve their attendance and access to education. You will need to be warm, approachable and supportive with an ability to have difficult and challenging conversations.

You will work closely with the School Attendance Champion, our Deputy Headteacher, to bridge the gap between the families and their needs and the internal and external resources that can help remove barriers to education.

You will work with pupils and families to assess their individual needs and provide them with support, signposting, resources, and referrals as needed. You will be responsible for facilitating and implementing programs and services to meet the needs of pupils and their families and will also be an advocate and voice for them when needed.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about education and who understands the role of attendance within this as well as the importance of building positive relationships with pupils and their families.

All applicants should be flexible, open minded, non judgmental and willing to commit to our school vision, ethos and virtues - Integrity, Curiosity, Respect, Service and Teamwork.
